Job Description


The Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS), provides transformative, strategic, and operational leadership, balancing and aligning the vision and strategic objectives of Sheridan with those of the Faculty. The Dean is responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning, and for the development, delivery and ongoing quality review of innovative programs and initiatives within the portfolio.

What You\'ll Be Doing

A visionary and inclusive leader, you will use your exemplary leadership skills to design and implement initiatives that enable the Faculty to deliver on the Sheridan 2024 strategic plan. With a strong understanding of student success, you will utilize a creative and collaborative approach to drive innovation that positions our learners to thrive in a complex world. The Dean develops and strengthens touchpoints for faculty consultation across a broad range of matters that shape the learning experience and academic character of Sheridan and ensures faculty engagement on matters related to delivering on the Sheridan 2024 strategic plan.

You will work to establish an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive Faculty where students, staff and faculty members thrive in a dynamic and engaging learning environment, and one that is grounded in mutual respect, accountability, and principled decision-making. As a leader with a deep understanding of interdisciplinarity, the Dean champions lateral collaboration that results in distinctive programming and signature pedagogies for learners across Sheridan.

The Dean also develops and maintains partnerships with external constituencies (e.g., government agencies, professional societies, industry, and other educational institutions) to continue to represent the interests and build the profile of Sheridan, the Faculty, and its programs.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) offers programs in Communication and Literary Studies, Humanities and Creativity, and Social and Life Sciences. FHASS is also responsible for coordination of all of Sheridan\'s cross-college general education and degree breadth course offerings. Our holistic approach to education develops knowledge, creative thinking, and confidence.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and leadership along with a graduate degree in a relevant discipline. A Ph.D., significant evidence of EDI scholarship, and proven track record of outstanding leadership experience within a post-secondary institution is preferred.

Salary Range: $151,742 - $189,677
