Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for an Intervenor role based in Sault Ste. Marie. Reporting to the Manager, Deafblind Intervening Services. The Intervenor will ensure individuals with combined vision and hearing loss receive clear and accurate information and act as a sighted guide to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting and accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc.

This is a permanent, full-time unionized position, working Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The ideal candidate would have a Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology), and/or three to five years' experience working with individuals who are deafblind. Formal training in ASL, Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille would be an asset. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local (as well as occasional out of town) travel with clients.
