DC Power Technician



This position is in the Telecom Industry, working in Central Office, Cell Sites, Data Centers and/or Headend environments

SUMMARY:



Position requiring experience as an DC Power Installation Technician (primary & secondary power). Experience in telecommunications Central Office equipment Installation, including engineering and installation of Ironwork, DC Power, Batteries, Comm Systems, Transport/Facilities, Digital Switch and understanding of AC wiring with emphasis on safety and quality.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:



Must be able to follow direction/instructions, and read & understand customer standards. DC Power Equipment Installers are responsible for the installation of equipment such as batteries, rectifiers, primary distribution bays, BDFBs and associated infrastructure (bus bar) used in telecommunications networks. Analyze, plan, layout and assign installation activity to other installation personnel. Act as subject matter expert on provisioning, activating, and testing 24 and 48 volt DC electronic equipment. The work will involve the installation of cable, wiring, and telecommunications equipment in Central Office and other Telecom facilities. Installers should be familiar with and/or trained with iron work/bays/equipment rack installation, blueprint/schematic reading and method of procedures. Safety, paperwork, leading crew members, customer interaction, and overall accountability for each project assigned. Work well within a team demonstrating leadership abilities Good written and oral communication skills Good customer service skills Good computer software skills required Adaptable to changing environments Willing to travel (50-75%)

LEVEL 4 or Lead DC TECHNICIANS ONLY

In addition to the above experience, Technician must have the following experience:

Strong management skills, strong engineering skills, complete projects on time and on budget. Exercises independent judgment of the standard for working on live power safely. Preferably 5+ years' experience in power transition work including the addition and removal of circuits on working power plants, batteries, and secondary power Utilizes hand tools, test equipment, turn up, perform hardware adds and/or upgrades. Site surveying and job walking experience Experience in performing all DC work Must be able to perform repeated bending & lifting of up to 100lbs (with assistance) during certain procedures Manage job scope changes. Must be able to provide necessary pro-active recommendations to clients. Knowledge of general computer hardware & software applications. Thorough knowledge of Telcordia and Customer Standards. Candidate must be willing to work nights, weekends and be willing to travel when necessary. Must be able and willing to train Level 1-3 installers

SKILL, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAITS:



EDUCATION:

Associate Degree in an appropriate technology desirable 5+ years related work experience as a lead installer Extensive knowledge of Telcordia and customer specific installation standards Extensive knowledge and/or certification from such as Eltek, Emerson/Vertiv and Enersys/Alpha experience in DC power installation, maintenance and repair. Proficiency in reading and interpreting, as well as updating, complex technical instructions, plans blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
