Must be ready to start work at 6:30am
Write the menu for the day on board
Read notes from previous shift to be informed of any changes
Ensures that daily food is prepared, cooked and served to a high standard in a timely, safe and consistent manner
Regular clean-up ( i.e. pots, pans) is to be performed after each meal
Keep all equipment clean and report unsafe or faulty equipment
Follow good housekeeping procedures, keep work areas clean and sanitized
If any meats have to be taken out of the freezer to be defrosted, take out early so it is completely defrosted for night staff to prepare.
Garbage is to be emptied after each meal and at the end of your shift
When an order arrives, it should be put away in a timely fashion with assistance from dining staff
Temp logs and menu books are to be filled out daily.
Be sure to always approach residents with a friendly attitude and be courteous.
Ensure that everyone entering the kitchen is wearing a hairnet
If there are menu changes, please have approved by management
Oversee dining staff (i.e. table setting)
When any items are placed in the refrigerator, they must be labelled and dated.
Clean out coolers at the end of each shift
Prepare duty list for nightshift prep cook and leave notes for the cook who is coming on the following day
Do a daily check on supplies and keep an ongoing list of any items that will be required to be ordered on order day
Assist management with preparation of menus
Adhere to the provincial guidelines for proper and safe food handling and practices
Assists in providing direction, guidance and instruction to cooks in training
Foster an environment of engagement, encouragement and safeguard to ensure resident's well-being is maintained. Particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support
In case of emergency, assist PCA's if they require assistance with a resident or required to assist/escort residents to or from main dining room
Be sure to always approach residents with a friendly attitude and be courteous
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Is compassionate and cares about the dignity of each resident
Communicates well with coworkers and residents
Possesses patience and understanding when dealing with difficult residents
Is able to kneel, bend, stoop and lift repeatedly
Has good listening skills
Understands how good health and hygiene go hand in hand
Wage Rate
Per the collective agreement $18.27 per hour.
