Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Early Childhood Educator to join our team. This position focuses on providing specialized care and developmental support for children with disabilities under FSCD funding, specifically supporting children with Down syndrome in a daycare setting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development, inclusive practices, and individualized program planning to help each child reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide daily care, supervision, and developmental support for children enrolled under FSCD agreements. Implement individualized program plans (IPPs) or FSCD goals in collaboration with families, therapists, and agency coordinators. Support inclusion of children with Down syndrome in all classroom routines and activities. Adapt programming and learning materials to meet the developmental needs of each child. Maintain communication with parents, support staff, and multidisciplinary teams (OT, SLP, PT, FSCD caseworkers). Record and report observations, progress notes, and daily documentation as required by FSCD and daycare policies. Foster a positive, nurturing, and inclusive environment that promotes independence, social-emotional growth, and learning through play. Participate in regular staff meetings and professional development related to special needs education.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Level 1 Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certification; Level 2 or 3 preferred.

Experience:

At least 1 year of experience working with children with disabilities (preferably Down syndrome). Knowledge of FSCD programming, documentation, and collaboration processes. Understanding of child development, sensory processing, and communication supports. Current First Aid and CPR certification. Valid Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (or willing to obtain). Excellent communication, patience, and teamwork skills.

Work Conditions

Indoor and outdoor childcare environment. Active supervision, lifting, and assisting with physical activities as needed. Collaboration with FSCD teams and family meetings when required.

Compensation & Schedule

Wage: $17.00/hour plus top up depending on level Hours: 9am - 1pm
Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
