Job Overview
We are hiring a reliable Cook to prepare fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for children in our licensed child care centre. The right person is organized, clean, calm under pressure, and takes pride in safe food handling and allergy awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare daily meals and snacks for children according to the centre's menu and nutrition guidelines.
Follow allergy and dietary restrictions carefully (for example nut-free, special diets as required).
Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including daily cleaning and food safety logs (if used).
Order groceries and supplies, manage inventory, and reduce food waste (if assigned).
Label, store, and rotate food properly (FIFO), and monitor temperatures as required.
Work with the supervisor/educators to coordinate meal times and accommodate special needs.
Comply with all applicable public health requirements and centre policies.
Qualifications
Experience cooking in a commercial kitchen, childcare setting, school, retirement home, or similar environment.
Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices (Food Handler certificate preferred or required, specify).
Strong reliability and punctuality, this role is time-sensitive.
Comfortable working in a child care environment (background check required).
Assets
Experience with allergy-safe meal prep for children.
Bilingual (French and English).
Menu planning experience.
Requirements (if applicable)
Food Handler Certification (required or must be obtained within X days).
Vulnerable Sector Check (required).
Up-to-date immunizations as per centre policy (optional, only include if you actually require it).
