Location: YMCA Camp Pine Crest, Torrance, Ontario (Transportation to camp is available at the beginning and end of the summer)




Work Hours: Must be available to work 6 days a week between Monday - Sunday

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.



The Day Camp Program Head plays an integral role in ensuring every child has a positive and engaging experience in the Day Camp programs. This position works closely with the Day Camp Coordinator to ensure programs are of the highest quality and tailored to the needs and interests of the intended age groups. The Program Head provides guidance to staff through in-the-moment feedback on program delivery, without direct supervisory responsibilities, while acting as a float to support Day Camp staff in executing planned activities. In addition, the role ensures health and safety standards are maintained and fosters a positive, inclusive environment for campers and staff.


In this role, you will:




Assist Day Camp Coordinator in supervising Camp Counsellors to ensure staff fulfill their roles effectively Provide leadership to the Camp Staff team by monitoring, coaching, and mentoring staff Support Counsellors with program delivery, ensuring programs align with program manuals, assisting with setup and takedown, organizing program equipment, and confirming Counsellors have all required materials Map programs for the entire camp season and assist with training staff to ensure all programs are executed to a high standard Assist with covering Counsellor breaks, staff absences, and program delivery as needed Attend all staff trainings and meetings, arrive on time, actively participate, and contribute to the development of all camp staff Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and maintained, and contribute to the cleaning, safety, and maintenance of camp sites Act as a positive role model for campers and fellow staff by embodying YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp guidelines, and Ontario Camps Association standards Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:




Standard First Aid & CPR-C, and National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of the contract Minimum 2 years' experience in a child-oriented program Experience planning and preparing programs for campers aged 4-12 Experience with YMCA Day Camps considered an asset Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
