Duties:

The Day Camp Program Assistant Supervisor is responsible for their site-specific planning, coordination, and supervision of the City of Stratford Day Camp program. The Assistant Supervisor will ensure a welcoming, safe and positive recreational experience through age and behavioural appropriate programming. They will be knowledgeable of city policies and procedures and provide exceptional customer service to campers, caregivers, and members of the community.

Work Performed:




Provide excellent customer service and project a positive image for the City of Stratford; being courteous and respectful to campers, caregivers, and members of the community.

Plan and implement, in conjunction with the Camp Supervisory Team, a varied recreational program involving crafts, active and quiet games, sports and special events for children that account for indoor and outdoor conditions.

Take responsible action and provide leadership to protect the welfare of all participants.

Support the Supervisor in the training of staff and the evaluation of the program.

Oversee and evaluate specific-site daily operations and the delivery of programs and activities.

Coach and mentor staff to support effective program delivery.

Communicate effectively with staff and Supervisors through weekly meetings, clear instructions, and documentation.

Ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for campers.

Attends outdoor and indoor activities, trips, and swimming excursions.

Monitors the behaviour of campers and staff, in collaboration with Supervisors and Inclusion Coordinators, and when required, coaching staff on appropriate behaviour?support techniques.

Provide updates on camp operations and seek guidance from the Camp Supervisor, Supervisor of Recreation or Manager as required.

Responsible for ensuring accurate completion of documentation at site (e.g., calendars, daily attendance, incident/accident reports, weekly evaluations).

Ensure open and effective communication with parents/caregivers and review the exchange of camper?specific information back to parents/caregivers, as necessary.

Assume the responsibilities and duties of the Supervisor and/or other staff during absences, as required.

Provide shift coverage in the event of staff absence.

Perform other related duties assigned.





Qualifications:

G-license and Driver's Abstract required at time of hire.

Previous experience working with children and youth.

Previous experience in recreation programming is an asset.





Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications




Valid Standard First Aid with CPR?C Certification.

Experience with supervision within day camp or recreation programs, including staff supervision, mentoring, and training is preferred.

High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is an asset. A successful candidate will be required to obtain the certification.

Strong communication and customer service skills; able to build positive relationships with parents/caregivers and community partners.

Possess knowledge and understanding of risk mitigation and safety practices when working with children and youth in a camp setting.

Strong organization and time?management skills; accuracy with records, schedules, and site documentation.

Proven ability to support positive behaviour, de?escalate situations, and apply behaviour?support techniques.

Completion of or enrollment in a 2-year College diploma program with a focus in Recreation, Child Development or Social Services or related field is considered an asset.

A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Record Check) is required for successful candidates, in accordance with City policy.
