As a Database Administrator (DBA) , you will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and maintaining the company's databases, using Oracle, PostgreSQL and SQL Server. You will be a part of geoLOGIC's Data Services team whose remit is to provide our clients with the highest quality energy data in the industry. Working closely with internal subject matter experts, the Data Services team expands and enhances geoLOGIC's data offerings. The team also handles day-to-day operational support to ensure that data continues to flow through our systems and provides tier-three support for clients. This leads to a fast-paced environment with lots of variety.


Reporting to the Data Services Manager, this position involves close connections within a team of diverse talents, ranging from Sr Data Developers to .NET developers to GIS developers. Outside of the team, there will be interactions with data subject matter experts to help guide data offerings, as well as members of our Product Development, Data Acquisition and Data Production teams.

The Data Services team is responsible for:

• Development and maintenance of geoLOGIC's client-facing database (geoLOGIC Data Centre - gDC)
• Development of our quality assurance system for all our internal data processes
+ Including a data entry application, and using standard and custom ETL frameworks
• Automated processes to consume data from external sources
• Performing data analysis for other departments and clients as required
• Feeding data to multiple first-party commercial software products
• Consolidation of data processes to gain efficiencies

The Role:

• You have in-depth knowledge and experience working with databases and data processes without being constrained to out-of-the box solutions, and are comfortable not just creating, but also maintaining existing processes for data extraction and storage.
• Experience in Oracle and PL/SQL, as well as PostgreSQL will be important in this role. In addition to supporting existing infrastructure, you will play a major part in a corporate project migrating Oracle processes to Postgres.
• To thrive in this role, you must have a strong team focus, and a self-motivated drive to support excellent data solutions. Having a passion to learn and work with new data, and the ability to quickly context-switch and multi-task is very important.
• You crave being part of a collaborative environment and can work with both technical and non-technical business groups. Being able to work towards customer-centric solutions is imperative.
• As a member of the team, you will be expected to work with senior developers to assist in projects and be an active participant in their implementation, and transition to taking on more responsibility within projects as time progresses.

How will you spend your day?

• Assisting in supporting critical projects both in terms of operational and product roadmap requirements
• Collaborating with team members to provide data solutions which align with our customers' needs
• Implementing changes in database operations and ensuring data is readily available to end-users
• Minimizing downtime of databases and ensuring data provided is accurate
• Managing database access and keeping stored data up to date
• Providing feedback, and support to the team on the usage of data provided
• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up so that vital information can be retrieved in case of accidental loss or security breach
• Monitoring performance and providing information on ways to improve the authenticity and security of data
• Maintaining the efficiency of the database by providing regular checks and data updates

Ready to Apply? Here's what we're looking for:

• A combination of 5+ years' experience in a team environment of
+ Oracle, PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server administration
+ ETL processes
• Proficient in writing SQL - some PL/SQL, Python and management of materialized views required
• Extensive experience in database management, and maintenance, backups, restores, and recovery
• Experience with Linux editors and shell scripts
• Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity
• Familiarity with Database design, documentation, patching and upgrading
• Superior time management, inter-personal skills and a desire to collaborate
• The ability to work under pressure to resolve live issues with systems in production
• Passion to learn new technologies and new data
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary degree in a computer discipline or relevant certification
• 5+ years of commercial experience

Other Assets:

• Experience with Snowflake and Elasticsearch
• Familiarity with cloud implementations in AWS and Azure
• Experience with the management of spatial data, and Esri tools
• Linux system admin
• Knowledge of Canadian Oil and Gas data
• Oracle Database Administration Certified
• SQL Server Database Administration Certified
• PPDM CPDA
