The Position
Data Scientist Associate (Internship/Co-op) Length: 8 months (required). Position type: Full time (business hours) \xe2\x80\x93 Hybrid (required). This internship position is located in Mississauga. Below is a description of some of the projects an intern may expect during the course of their internship.
Job Purpose The Data Science Associate Internship role is an opportunity to be a member of an interdisciplinary scrum team responsible for designing and implementing automation-based solutions for all phases of the life cycle for R packages, Python libraries and other data science products. Your scrum team will develop a suite of multifaceted, reusable and scalable CI/CD pipelines, both internal and open sourced, to ensure that code quality, security, and compliance are guaranteed from project inception through release. You will also play a critical role in designing and building LLM tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve data science programming efficiency.
Job Accountabilities may include

  • Develop scalable software solutions, data pipelines and infrastructures to facilitate integration, deployment and release of R/Python and other data science languages, including AI applications.
  • Learn and understand software development gaps our data scientists face, and propose and deliver solutions, automations and innovations to amplify their impact.
  • Continually search for opportunities to automate workflows and streamline processes.
  • Work with business stakeholders through to highly technical software engineers to identify functional needs.

Who You Are Basic requirements
  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in a Master level.
  • Master Degree intern majoring in Computer Science, Bioinformatics and related computational field (highly preferred in the Master of Science in Applied Computing MScAC at UofT)
  • Availability to attend the internship in a hybrid model, full time and for a minimum of 8 months length.
  • Experience with software development workflow including versioning and code collaboration with Git, and CI/CD tools is essential.
  • Expert knowledge on the process of writing R/Python code, and a thought leader on how to automate development and and empower R/Python data science talent with tooling for writing, building, linting, and deploying their R/Python packages and libraries is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of ML concepts and understanding of ML-based product lifecycle and operations. Familiarity with ML toolkits.
  • Hands-on experience in building an automation infrastructure, tools, and frameworks for large-scale AI/ML or cloud-based applications leveraging cross-functional partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating and testing machine learning models. Familiarity with performance metrics, validation techniques, and statistical analysis.
Other requirements
  • Passion for learning and curious about drug development in the biotech industry.
  • Passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI models and their applications.
  • Familiarity with web development principles, best practices and frameworks is strongly preferred.
  • Student organization and/or study abroad experiences are a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
