In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Data Scientist (DS) reports to the Director, Real-Time Virtual Support (RTVS) receives day-to-day direction from the Clinical Manager, RTVS and the Chief Data Scientist in the Data Informatics Group. The Data Scientist will build upon RCCbc's data science and web platforms to collect, validate and prepare high-quality data to make data-informed decisions by the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) team and network. The DS is responsible for working with the data owners to ensure the quality and integrity of the data and reporting systems.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about healthcare equity, skilled in organizing and analyzing diverse data types, and eager to explore the integration of AI and large language models (LLMs) into healthcare workflows.
NETWORK SUMMARY
Led by rural physicians, the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) is a network that works to improve the health of people and their communities in rural BC. Funded primarily by the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues, our network partners include healthcare providers, healthcare administrators, community members, policymakers, educators, researchers, and non-profit and business leaders. We serve all rural, remote and Indigenous communities in BC covered by the Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include:
Work with subject matter experts to understand the needs for informatics powered by effective, secure data workflows.
Collect, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources (e.g., EMRs, surveys, call logs, interviews, and public sources).
Develop data visualizations and informatics products.to support program monitoring and evaluation.
Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to identify data needs and translate them into actionable insights.
Assist in the development and testing of AI-driven tools, including those powered by large language models (LLMs), to enhance virtual support services.
Document data processes and contribute to the development of data governance practices.
Support the preparation of presentations, grant applications, and publications.
Build reporting and informatics tools to provide actionable insight into key metrics
Work with cloud data storage solutions including PostgreSQL and Azure data infrastructure.
Contribute to data ETL (Extract, Transform, Load).
Implement data validation and cleansing methods to ensure accurate and dependable data.
Develop algorithms to transform data into usable information to support the work of RCCbc staff and partners.
Develop reproducible reports with Python and Jupyter.
QUALIFICATIONS
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related technical discipline plus relevant experience.
3 to 5 years of recent experience working with PostgreSQL, SQL and Python Ability to manipulate, process and extract value from large, unstructured, disconnected datasets.
Knowledge of Git/Github for version control. Knowledge of the full data science stack would be an asset, including software development, data engineering, and digital content.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of health care data governance, guidelines relating to privacy, confidentiality and security.
Ability to use audience appropriate communication and language to present information, analyze results, and convey concepts.
Ability to work outside of regular work hours, as needed, to accommodate meetings and time sensitive deliverables.
Demonstrated understanding of diversity, inclusion and cultural humility as they apply to health care is an asset.
