We are seeking a Data Manager to join the Division of Haematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant/Cellular Therapy to provide ongoing maintenance of clinical patient data for the divisional and provincial databases.


We are seeking a Data Manager to join the Division of Haematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant/Cellular Therapy to provide ongoing maintenance of clinical patient data for the divisional and provincial databases.



This role also involves close collaboration with the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO). You will work closely with POGO to ensure that the quality of data entered in the provincial databases is of the highest standard. Working closely with the Data Management team, you will develop strategies to support best practices for database workflow, internal and external databases and WEB-based technologies. You will play an integral role in supporting the advancement of Data Governance strategy work and electronic storage solutions for patient care related documents. Here's What You'll Get To Do



Responsible for the collection, accuracy, and timely data entry into the divisional and provincial databases. Review and abstract the medical records for patients and monitoring of patient status to meet pre-defined data submission requirements. Review data for quality and completeness and assist with QI/QA of several databases Collect oncology patient data through active participation in rounds and chart reviews. Input and maintain oncology patient data into databases including provincial databases such as POGONIS and the Cancer in Young People in Canada (CYP-C) databases to facilitate archival of patient information. Utilize electronic patient data collection tools and develop innovative strategies to streamline data collection processes to increase efficiency in data management and research data acquisition. Actively participate in the division's database working group to develop new strategies to effectively manage large volumes of patient data and improve current data collection quality. Be involved in Data Governance Strategy work at a divisional and institutional level, as needed. Other job responsibilities as required.

Essential Requirements





University undergraduate degree in science is preferred. Experience working with health records is required, 2+ years' experience preferred. Proficient with PC computers and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access). Previous experience completing data extraction from medical charts. Previous experience with database maintenance. Self-motivated, adaptable, takes initiative and detail oriented. Sound knowledge of privacy legislation. Ability to think critically and develop innovative ways to effectively manage large volumes of patient data. Ability to handle competing demands with diplomacy and enthusiasm. Ability to function independently and as a part of a team. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) and active member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association, (CHIMA), is a strong asset. Knowledge of medical terminology and pathophysiology is an asset.

Employment Type



Full-time, 35 hrs/week 2-year contract with opportunity for extension.
This is a hybrid role, which will require some on-site presence at SickKids, with an opportunity to work primarily from home, depending on daily activities and needs.
