Reporting to the Director of Emergency Health Services, the EHS Data Coordinator & Analyst reviews Emergency Health Services data, interprets findings, and promotes system improvement through public awareness, contributions to policy development, and operational review of inter-provincial agreements. The incumbent is responsible for coordination of the provincial trauma program, the provincial AED registry, generating provincial toxicology reports, and serves as a resource in the management and oversight of Emergency Health Services in accordance with applicable legislation, regulation, contracts, policies, and standards. Duties include:
  • Coordinates Department access to multiple data sources pertinent to emergency health system utilization.
  • Participates or leads education, research, or additional projects requiring EHS data and decision support.
  • Leads and contributes to patient and public safety working groups or committees, internally to Prince Edward Island (including the Prince Edward Island Trauma Program) and externally through regional or pan-Canadian networks.
  • Reviews system-level performance to insure best-possible access to care for patients. Fosters strategic partnerships between healthcare providers (in-province and out-of-province) to maximize system performance.
  • Interprets data analysis from various sources to provide direction on optimal patient care including established key performance indicators in collaboration with the EHS Policy Analyst.
  • Supports DHW and HPEI develop programs centered on patient safety and client/caregiver experience and acts as department liaison between on issues of patient or public safety.
  • Contributes to public awareness and First Responder outreach, particularly with respect to injury prevention, access to AED, and patient safety. Serves as the Department liaison for the Public AED registry and with the Dept of Public Safety when necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicant must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Paramedicine, Nursing, Health Information/eHealth, or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience working in an emergency health setting, preferably with current licensure as a PEI EMT-III or Advanced Care Paramedic.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health care system in Prince Edward Island; specifically, emergency health and critical care services.
  • Proficient skills in statistical analysis and data management (SAS, R, Strata, or SPSS), particularly using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high-pace and self-directed environment managing multiple projects and competing deadlines by applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of responsibilities of a health custodian to maintain privacy and confidentiality of personal health information.
  • Excellent inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead or facilitate groups and provide presentations.
  • A good previous work and attendance record.
  • Must have a current and recent Criminal Record Check, prior to employment.
Other Qualifications:
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Epidemiology, Applied Health Research, Biostatistics, or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher considered an asset
  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
