PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Data Analyst - Crime Analytics you will be responsible for the preparation and dissemination of a variety of products related to locations of criminal activity, which support operations undertaken by the Canadian Pacific Police Service (CPPS). You are responsible for the management of crime related statistics, and reporting, trend analysis, and quality assurance tasks associated with this operational requirement. You will primarily work independently and deliver quantitative analysis to CPPS leadership on a regular basis.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of research methods, with a strong focus on quantitative analytical skills and data visualization and reporting techniques;
  • Assume the role of a subject matter expert as it relates to the identification of key trends associated with crime statistics tied to incidents which occur across a railway network spanning multiple Canadian provinces and U.S. states;
  • Maintain Power BI reports which provide front line members with up-to-date statistics relating to criminal incidents in the territories in which they operate;
  • Maintain and regularly review a database of criminal incidents, records, and documents;
  • Establish working relationships with front line members and operational Inspectors within CPPS, and effectively liaise with members of partner law enforcement agencies;
  • Support the broader remit of the Criminal Intelligence Unit as it relates to maintaining oversight of key threats to the broader organization\'s personnel and operations;
  • Responsible for responding to critical incidents outside standard work hours when required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Post-secondary education, with a degree in Statistics, mathematics, business, criminology, or related fields would be considered an asset;
  • Experience in a policing or government environment with duties related to data analysis, reporting, and research would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to conduct quantitative analysis on large data-sets, to identify key trends, and to deliver meaningful analysis and recommendations based on this analysis;
  • Ability to present key findings from large datasets through a variety of methods, including heat mapping, Power BI reports, and a range of graphs and related visualization techniques;
  • Ability to troubleshoot databases, identify data reporting issues, and work with a range of stakeholders to address any issues;
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products (in particular MS Excel and Power BI), alongside Arc GIS mapping, police information systems including CPIC, and conducting internet-based research;
  • Ability to clean datasets, identify linkages and trends, and to present findings in a succinct manner;
  • Ability to multi-task, to work independently and in a small team environment, and to respond to regular requests from CPPS leadership;
  • Ability to work with and review confidential and sensitive materials while maintaining discretion;

  • Association/network charts
  • Timeline/sequence of events
  • Comparative case charts
  • Geo-mapping
  • Flow charts
  • Use computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, analyze, and present data

Management Conductor Program:
