The Data Analyst for our commercial market segment plays a critical role in guiding where the company builds or extends its network in rural markets, with a direct focus on serving commercial customers and driving subscriber acquisition. This role sits at the intersection of data science, strategic planning, and sales enablement. The analyst will use geographic, market, customer, and sales data to recommend high- impact network expansion areas and will be directly accountable for partnering with sales and marketing to increase customer penetration and revenue realization in newly built areas.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Analysis Market Prioritization
Identify and evaluate rural geographies with strong commercial potential through analysis of business density, industry types, competitor presence, and infrastructure gaps.
Develop scoring models and dashboards to prioritize network builds based on projected commercial demand, cost-to-build, available subsidies, and expected ROI.
Integrate sales pipeline data and CRM insights to validate opportunity areas and shape build plans.
Sales Partnership & Customer Penetration
Partner closely with commercial sales teams to:
o Identify clusters of high-value prospects.
o Translate sales input into network expansion recommendations.
o Track and report performance on build-to-penetration conversion metrics.
Collaborate on local go-to-market strategies to accelerate adoption once a rural build is complete.
Establish feedback loops with sales and marketing to adjust data models based on field realities and customer feedback.
Business Case & Financial Support
Produce business cases and forecasts to support capital investment in rural commercial zones.
Align network plans with government subsidy programs to reduce cost and risk.
Measure ROI of completed builds and continuously refine predictive models.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Geography, Telecommunications, or a related field.
3+ years in a data analytics or strategy role, ideally in telecom, infrastructure, utilities, or B2B markets.
Experience working with sales, marketing, or commercial operations teams on data- driven initiatives.
Advanced SQL and Excel skills; proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Strong background in GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data analysis.
Ability to synthesize technical data and market intelligence into clear, actionable recommendations.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with rural broadband infrastructure (fiber, fixed wireless) and build economics.
Experience with Canadian broadband regulatory frameworks and rural funding programs (e.g., CRTC targets, UBF, ISED).
Knowledge of enterprise customer segments in rural areas (e.g., agriculture, small business, logistics).
Background in telecom product strategy or business development is a plus.
Familiarity with data sources such as D&B, ZoomInfo, Explorium, ConnectBase, CostQuest, or government open data portals.(e-911, assessment rolls and property details)
Success Metrics
Volume and quality of rural commercial build opportunities prioritized and executed.
Customer penetration rate in newly built areas (target % within 0-3 and 6-12 months).
ROI performance of funded builds and business case accuracy.
Sales satisfaction and measurable impact of analytics on regional sales outcomes.
Timeliness and clarity of reporting to senior leadership on rural build progress and adoption.
