ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Cybersecurity and IT Compliance Engineer ensures the protection of corporate data, systems, and infrastructure by leading the design, enforcement, and continuous improvement of security policies, controls, and technologies. This role exists to safeguard digital and physical access, maintain regulatory compliance, and support secure operations across Ontario Northland's IT environment.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and analyze logs and reports from all security systems and physical security environments.
Investigate and contain security breaches; execute and regularly test incident response plans.
Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and system audits, support internal and external audit requests.
Maintain current knowledge of IT security trends, threat vectors, and emerging technologies.
Recommend and implement new or enhanced security solutions to improve enterprise security.
Enforce and maintain IT security policies, standards, and procedures.
Ensure secure system configurations, apply patches, and manage operating system upgrades.
Coordinate with Information Management and GRC functions to ensure IT compliance.
Serve as an escalation point for Cybersecurity and IT Compliance Specialists.
Lead planning and execution of business continuity and disaster recovery strategies; conduct exercises and audit results.
Configure and manage 24/7 monitoring of systems and networks for threats.
Integrate threat intelligence into detection and response workflows.
Review and manage firewall rules and logs.
Manage user account setups, access controls, and templated job profiles for automated permission assignment via AD groups.
Monitor and configure SCIM for cross-domain identity management.
Collaborate with SECCAS providers and support IAM/PAM systems.
Support endpoint security, SSO integrations, and application security.
Participate in code reviews, white-hat testing, and DevSecOps initiatives including AI, data, and development security.
Deliver security awareness training and maintain a catalogue of all technology systems and access controls.
Manage and maintain emergency notification systems for first aid alerts, 911 notifications, and evacuation alarms.
Provide infrastructure design solutions and participate in enterprise architecture planning.
Deploy, integrate, and configure new security solutions and enhancements.
Contribute to secure application development as a security specialist and solution provider.
Manage and maintain all security systems and associated software including firewalls, IDS/IPS, cryptography, video surveillance, and antivirus.
REQUIREMENTS:
College Diploma in Computer Networking, Science, or Engineering
CISSP, ITIL certification or similar frameworks (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, ISO 15020000, COBIT) are preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the IT Security field
Demonstrated expertise in networking technologies and internet protocols
Experience working with video surveillance systems
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with virtual server environments and cloud infrastructure
Proficiency in Linux environments is an asset
Experience in gathering and analyzing technical and business requirements
Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft-based environments
Proven ability to lead and influence IT staff at all levels in adopting cybersecurity and network standards, processes, and controls
Capable of training others on complex systems and providing support-related guidance
In-depth understanding of IT Operations and IT Service Management practices
Strong project management skills, including planning, risk management, budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination
Ability to provide expert advice to staff, project teams, clients, and stakeholders
Skilled in identifying complex issues, assessing risks, and recommending viable solutions
Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills
Strong documentation and technical writing skills
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Highly motivated, organized, and efficient with a strong attention to detail
Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Strong commitment to health and safety practices
