The Customs Officer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with customs regulations and facilitating the smooth movement of goods across borders. This position involves working closely with various stakeholders, including importers, exporters, and government agencies, to manage customs documentation and ensure adherence to legal requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills and a solid understanding of supply chain processes.
Duties
Review and process customs documentation for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Negotiate terms with clients and stakeholders to resolve any customs-related issues.
Maintain customer relationship management by providing timely updates and support throughout the customs clearance process.
Collaborate with freight forwarders and logistics providers to ensure efficient movement of goods.
Manage accounts related to customs transactions, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
Conduct data entry tasks related to customs declarations and shipments.
Monitor supply chain activities to identify potential issues or delays in customs processing.
Provide insights on B2B sales opportunities related to customs services.
Utilize AS400 software for tracking shipments and managing customer accounts.
Support inside sales efforts by providing expertise on customs regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
Proven experience in customs operations or a related field is preferred.
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage customer relationships effectively.
Familiarity with freight forwarding, supply chain management, and logistics processes.
Experience in account management and B2B sales is advantageous.
Proficient in data entry with attention to detail for accurate documentation handling.
Knowledge of 3PL (third-party logistics) operations is a plus.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with clients and government agencies.
