Dawson Co-op invites applications for the position of
Customer Service Specialist
to join our team at our Home and Agro Centre, located in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
The
Customer Service Specialist
plays a key role in delivering exceptional service and support to customers, contractors, and members. Under the guidance of the Sales and Service Manager, this position provides expert product advice, accurate information, and tailored solutions to meet customer needs. A strong understanding of hardware and building materials is essential, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The goal is to ensure every interaction is professional, efficient, and contributes to a positive customer experience.
Reporting to the Sales and Service Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Come to work with a positive and professional approach and attitude
Be dependable for all scheduled shifts.
Provide exceptional service to customers from the Service Counter, including key cutting, answering and redirecting phone calls as requested, operating the cash register, and providing general project advice to customers.
Provide expert service to contractors at the Pro department by providing detailed product information, including specifications, availability, pricing, and application to ensure informed purchasing decisions.
Support special projects related to customer service, operational improvements, or internal initiatives.
Educate customers on the proper usage, installation, and maintenance of hardware and building materials to ensure product longevity and customer satisfaction.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of inventory, new products, and promotions.
Operate the Point of Sale (POS) terminal efficiently and in accordance with company standards, ensuring accurate transactions.
Process sales orders, returns, and exchanges in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with warehouse and sales teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment and delivery.
Handle customer complaints and resolve issues effectively and professionally.
Perform general housekeeping and maintenance duties.
Ensure a neat, clean and well-merchandised department.
Stock shelves and display merchandise as directed by Management.
Adhere to all Dawson Co-operative Union policies and procedures.
Adhere to all Dawson Co-operative Union health and safety standards, per the Health and Safety manual.
Plan for self development and take initiative to improve own knowledge, skills and abilities.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant certifications preferred
2 - 5 years of experience in customer service, preferably in hardware, construction supplies, or retail building materials
Strong knowledge of tools, construction materials, hardware, and related products
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong customer service mindset
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Proficient in using computer systems (POS, Microsoft Office)
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
Aptitude for conflict resolution and problem-solving
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs when handling materials
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $20.15-$27.56 per hour
Expected hours: 32 - 40 per week
