DATES OF WORK:

Sunday Library Service will be offered for the session: May 3, 2026 - January 3, 2027


(Excluding the following dates: May 17, 2026, August 2, 2026, September 6, 2026, October 11, 2026, and December 27, 2026)


The successful candidate may be required to start April 12 - April 26, 2026, for training purposes. Training hours will be scheduled and confirmed at the time of offer.

HOURS OF WORK:

Regular Sunday hours: May 3, 2026 - January 3, 2027


12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

BRANCH CLOSURE:

Staff assigned to branches that close during the Sunday session for State of Good Repair (SOGR) projects will be assigned to work at an alternate location.

PROGRAMMING:

Staff positions with Programming in their job description (e.g. Library Assistant, Senior Library Assistant, Librarian, Digital Design Technician, and Branch/Department Head) may be called on to offer library programs. To support staff who are assigned to one of these positions and have no experience in programming, training will be available.


Staff responsible for delivering programming on Sundays will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

PAYMENT:

Employees who work on Sundays shall be paid a premium for all hours worked of $5.00 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide customer service in a branch.

DUTIES:

Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, this position is responsible for:

Leadership Functions:

delivery of service in the absence of the designated supervisor participating in implementing training programs selects and trains Page staff as delegated provides verbal input to performance appraisals of staff

Service Functions:

providing information services planning, conducting and evaluating individual programs and events participating in community outreach performing circulation functions performing database maintenance functions weeding under system guidelines performing various duties at the branch, area and system level in special areas of expertise

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or Diploma from a Library Technicians course from a community college or similar institution or equivalent combination of education and related experience Minimum of 1 years' experience Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all, in accordance with human rights legislation and the principles of equity and access in the delivery of library service Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to provide information services to all age groups Ability to do outreach Ability to plan, conduct and evaluate programs and events Ability to exercise sound judgement and to use problem-solving skills
