Specific Position Information:

The successful applicant will be required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.


This position will include driving a TPL vehicle, for which a valid Class "G" driver's license in good standing is required. The successful candidate must also pass a City of Toronto Driving Test before starting the position.




Hours per week and Schedule of Work

(Hours and Schedule of work are subject to change in accordance with Article 19): 35 hours per week average. Evenings and Saturdays required. Plus 7 variable hours.


JOB SUMMARY:



To provide customer service associated with Mobile Library Services within the City of Toronto


DUTIES:




Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, this position is responsible for: Leadership Functions: delivery of service in the absence of the designated supervisor directing Pages participating in implementing training programs selects and trains Page staff as delegated provides verbal input to performance appraisals of staff Service Functions: providing customized information services to hospitals, deposit collections, talking book customers, home library service and bookmobile customers performing circulation functions associated with Mobile Library Services providing bed-side service with a book truck in hospitals maintaining and weeding customer information files participating in the development and maintenance of the hospital and talking book collections recommending the acquisition of new books supplying and maintaining equipment when required delivering materials in the vehicle maintaining the system's large-print rotating collection planning, conducting and evaluating programs and performing outreach performing database maintenance functions performing various duties at the branch such as processing materials, repairing books, inventory, daily timetables driving Library vehicles according to Mobile Library Services' schedules and for servicing as required determining maintenance and servicing requirements of vehicle; arranging maintenance, servicing when required

QUALIFICATIONS:




Bachelor's degree or Diploma from a Library Technicians course from a community college or similar institution or equivalent combination of education and related experience Minimum of 1 years' experience Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all, in accordance with human rights legislation and the principles of equity and access in the delivery of library service Valid Class "G" driver's licence Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repair Knowledge of adult popular literature Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to provide readers' advisory and reference service to the elderly and infirm Ability to plan, conduct and evaluate programs Ability to do outreach Ability to exercise sound judgement and to deal with unusual situations Ability to do physically demanding work
