Job Description

St. Gerard School Catholic School, part of the Archdiocese of St. Boniface is looking to add a new member to its team.

Reporting to the Principal, this role will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the school's cleanliness and orderly condition. Functions entail (but not limited to): heavy cleaning duties, tending to furnace and boiler, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk, further details provided under role/responsibility.

Role/Responsibility

• Responsible for the security of the facilities, before, during and after school hours
• Locks or unlocks doors, turns lights on/off, generally patrols grounds.
• Performs general clean up of entire school, school grounds and playground equipment,
• Sweeps, mops, polishes, refinishes resilient floors, vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas (if applicable/required), dumps garbage and recycle bins, performs all cleaning aspects of halls, classrooms, board rooms, restrooms, lunchroom, kitchen and gym as well as washing walls, windows and window coverings.
• Cleans light fixtures and changes bulbs/tubes.
• Performs minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, equipment, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds etc.
• Contacts appropriate management for service shop and major repair approval
• Responsible for vandalism clean up and repair within skill level.
• Maintains heating and air conditioning systems, boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats, etc.
• Maintains and/or has working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems.
• Maintains fire alarms, extinguishers and CO2 detectors.
• Prepares and sets up rooms or gym activities (as required) and clean up afterwards.
• Maintains outside grounds - removes snow, ice, and debris, sprays and removes weeds, etc.
• Determine needed supplies and equipment.
• Monitor need for equipment maintenance and repair. Responsible for proper inventory of materials and supplies
• Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED
• At least 1 years of custodial/janitorial experience
• Building trades certificate or equivalent desirable
• Must be flexible to work mornings, afternoons and on call shifts
• Ability to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures)
• Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation
• Physical ability to lift up to 75lb
• Possess a valid driver license

Offer of employment with the school will be subject to the results of a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and a clear report from the Child Abuse Registry

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed

• Cleaning: 1 year (preferred)
• janitorial: 1 year (preferred)
