Position Summary
In accordance with the mission, strategic direction, principles and policies, this position is responsible for keeping buildings and office space in a clean and orderly condition.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and appearance.
Perform rigorous cleaning including, but not limited to, common areas, offices, floors, stairs, walls, glass, restrooms, spot cleaning rugs/carpets and removing rubbish.
Perform a variety of minor maintenance such as replacing light bulbs.
Secure buildings by locking doors, windows and activating alarms as required.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment such as brooms, mops, vacuums, floor polisher, ladders, small hand tools, pressure washer, snow blower, salt spreader, and other tools and equipment as required.
Request replacement products and equipment as required.
Assist with set-up for events; moves office furniture and equipment as required.
Assist with minor building repairs such as broken windows, replacing lights, etc. as required.
Report any tenant, safety, or building repair concerns to the Manager.
Utilize task-appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment (e.g. gloves, masks) as required
Immediately report any injury or accident.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with tenants, staff and leadership teams
Perform other duties as required and assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience
o Building Service Maintenance Course plus one year (1) demonstrated experience operating cleaning tools and equipment
o Experience working with vulnerable populations including seniors and persons with mental and physical disabilities, addictions issues and low literacy
o Valid WHMIS Certification
o Valid First Aid (OFA) Certificate an asset
OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience
Knowledge
o Sound knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements, safe practices and WorksafeBC regulations.
o Thorough knowledge of infection control measures, sanitation and safe work practices.
o Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial care.
o Knowledge of MS Office Suite an asset

o Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain records
o Work independently and exercise time management to meet job expectations
o Operate a variety of tools and equipment used to perform the work
o Communicate with respect and a view to problem solve
o Adhere to the highest standards of ethics, integrity and professionalism; maintain cleanliness and appearance
Working Conditions
o Physically demanding work
o Working with chemicals
o Frequent lifting and moving of objects up to 20 kg
o Limited work outside in all weather conditions
o Limited exposure to equipment noise

o Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
o Access to personal and reliable vehicle; valid class 5 B.C. DL with clean Driver's Abstract
o May be required to work weekends on rare occasions (e.g. snow/ice/storm conditions)
