Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) is a vibrant First Nation community located on the beautiful shores of the Bay of Quinte. We are located approximately 20 minutes from Belleville, ON and centrally located between Toronto and Ottawa. There are approximately 11,000 registered members with approximately 2200 residing in Tyendinaga. Position Summary:
The part time Custodian - MBQ Community Wellbeing Center will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment. The position is integral in ensuring that the clients and staff of the health and social services programs receive high-quality services in a welcoming and hygienic space.
The Custodian is responsible for performing a full range of day-to-day custodial and maintenance duties by keeping workspaces clean and functional, while also managing waste, supplies and maintaining safety standards.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Director of Community Wellbeing. There are no direct reports for this position.
Summary of Main Responsibilities:
Carry out custodial duties by:
o Consistently ensuring a safe, hygienic and sanitary environment.
o Following a daily / weekly / monthly schedule
o Buffing all high traffic areas as required to maintain protective finish.
o Dusting and damp wipe all chairs, tables, furniture and equipment used by the public
o Ensure all washroom facilities are stocked with supplies and refilled in a timely manner.
o Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchens, including counters, floors, and appliances, washing dishes, inside fridges, and stoves as required.
o Wash and polish all windows and mirrors as required.
o Wash walls, ceilings and light fixtures regularly
o Wash and dust windowsills, ledges, shelves, desks, other furniture, and equipment.
o Sanitizing high-touch surfaces and common areas (i.e. Door handles, light switches, countertops);
o Launder linens and other washable items as needed.
o Collect garbage from all workstations and common areas and ensure that the garbage is securely stored until collected by local garbage collection
o Dispose of garbage and complete recycling as per MBQ procedures.
o Maintain an inventory checklist of washroom and cleaning supplies and recommend the purchase of required items
o Maintain an inventory of photocopier paper and recommend the purchase of replenishments.
o Ensuring overall cleanliness of the building, such as managing the perimeter insect / rodent line, dust control, and keeping common areas and aisleways clean and free of clutter .
o Ensuring that parking areas and grounds are free of debris.
o Clearing snow from entrances, and common areas, and spreading ice melting during winter weather
o Perform minor repairs, basic maintenance such as fixing damaged floors, moldings or doors.
o Ensure all tools and equipment used while performing duties are kept clean and well-maintained and stored in a safe and secure location.
o Assist with the set-up and tear-down of items for functions, including helping with furniture and equipment, carrying supplies, arranging decorations, etc. as required.
o Assist with organizing and maintaining all storage areas and buildings, keeping everything tidy and accessible.
o Ensure all cleaning supplies are properly labelled and not expired and locked in a storage room.
o Ensuring all fire doors are kept closed, and all doors are locked after hours
o Keep all exits, hallways and mechanical rooms free of clutter and flammable materials
o Displays proper signage when required for employee and client safety.
o Provide other manual labor services on various assignments as required.
o Adheres to all Occupational Health and Safety regulations and requirements.
o Maintains safety of self, building and others and reports any problems immediately / directly to Supervisor.
o Attend staff meetings and training programs when directed.
Health and Safety:
o Promoting and following all MBQ Health and Safety policies and procedures
All other duties as required
Requirements:
Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
Preference will be given to applicants with Building Maintenance training
Minimum of 3-years' experience in the janitorial / custodian field
Combination of training, education and experience may be considered (at the discretion of the organization)
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
First Aid and CPR an asset (and must be willing to take the training if hired)
Valid Driver's License and vehicle
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
WHIMIS training is an asset.
Must have working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines
Must have working knowledge of WHMIS for safe storage and use of cleaning supplies and materials
Must have working knowledge of building maintenance.
Knowledge of and understanding of emergency procedures for locking down or evacuation of building
Self-manage and meet deadlines.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in inclement weather
Heavy lifting above 50kg
Ability to be on-call in case of emergencies
Ability to maintain total confidentiality compliance.
