The Adult Education Division of Nova Scotia\'s Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration is dedicated to improving the education and employment prospects of Nova Scotia\'s adults by promoting, developing and funding adult literacy, essential skills, and upgrading programs in the province. The division administers the following programs: Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning, General Educational Development (GED), Recognition of Prior Learning, and Labour Mobility.

About Our Opportunity

The Curriculum Writer is responsible for the development and writing of programs/courses as well as professional development activities to support the curricula designed for the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning (NSSAL).

This position reports to directly to the Manager.

Primary Accountabilities

The curriculum writer is responsible for:

  • developing and writing courses/programs which can be delivered in-person and/or online across the NSSAL system;
  • identifying, evaluating, and developing appropriate resources to support curricula;
  • supporting the development of learner assessment and program evaluation guidelines and tools including recommending strategies for developing and implementing program standards and guidelines;
  • developing, designing, and delivering professional development workshops and adult education-related training for practitioners to support the implementation of new programs/courses;
  • researching and understanding emerging practices in the fields of adult literacy and secondary education programming as well as online instructional design; and
  • participating on project teams for Adult Education Division initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience

The position requires a Bachelor of Education plus five years of related experience. The Curriculum Writer will have knowledge of curriculum development models, adult learning practices and principles, inclusive education principles and practices such as universal design for learning and culturally responsive andragogy, and the education delivery and accreditation systems at the secondary level in Nova Scotia. A strong understanding of essential skills and employment readiness programming is a must.

Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills and the ability to demonstrate good judgement and strategic thinking are necessary. Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills are needed and the ability to adapt to change is essential. Strong negotiation skills are required to resolve issues and develop new working relationships. The ability to synthesize and summarize large amounts of information and research is also important. Proficiency with general office software is required, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and the internet as well as able to use multi-media software tools .

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Additional Information

This is a term employment opportunity with anticipated end date of July 11, 2025. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: $2,852.85 - $3,489.63 Bi-Weekly
