The Curatorial Intern will work with MOCA\xe2\x80\x99s programming team and assist with all facets of the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s curatorial initiatives and activities. The intern will support the development and delivery of MOCA\xe2\x80\x99s programmes across 2023 and 2024. The intern will receive direct mentorship from the museum\xe2\x80\x99s Curator, and they will gain valuable work experience in a museum while making an important contribution to MOCA\xe2\x80\x99s Programming team. Their research, programming production and administrative support will help shape future programmes at the museum.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a college or university program in museum studies, art history, cultural studies, visual cultures, archival, or curatorial studies, and have a strong interest in contemporary art and the museum environment. They should have strong planning and organizational abilities as well as experience coordinating and executing artistic programs. They should also possess excellent interpersonal skills and feel comfortable speaking in public. Experience working in a museum, cultural institution, or in the non-profit arts sector is a strong asset.

Requirements: RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supporting the Programming department in the research and development stages of a project through to its realization.
  • Support in the research of artists, exhibitions and other related areas
  • Support in the research, development and editing of interpretive texts including exhibition didactics, website copy and museum guides
  • Act as a point of contact between the Programming department and the rest of the team at MOCA
  • Organize and file documents in a meticulous and timely fashion, including but not limited to artist contracts, invoices, receipts etc.
  • Support the Programming department in the scheduling of internal and external meetings
  • Assist with the implementation and production of exhibitions
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to exhibitions and other programming
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • College or University graduate from a program in Museum Studies, Art History, Cultural Studies, Visual Cultures, Archival, Curatorial Studies, or other related field
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, 3D rendering software (desirable), database management and good keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated research skills and academic literacy
  • A passion for contemporary art and arts institutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a range of staff and publics in a courteous and professional manner
  • Impeccable attention to detail across all aspects of their work
  • Approaches their work and colleagues in a professional and conscientious way
  • Highly organized and takes initiative, demonstrating self-management, professionalism and leads by example
  • Experience developing and producing exhibitions

  • You are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
  • You are legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • You are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • You are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
  • You will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
  • You are unemployed or underemployed;

  • You are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
