The Opportunity



We are looking for a

Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN)

to join our

Health Team

at CUPS.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed nursing care to clients who are potentially experiencing the adverse effects of poverty, trauma and chronic illness. In your role, you will work to the full scope of your RN practice and assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards.

You'll play a primary role in supporting an integrated and holistic and client-centred approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. CUPS RN's support the creation of a safe and trauma informed health environment for clients and their families. You will provide quality patient care while promoting the shared mission, vision and values of CUPS.

Key Responsibilities



Provide safe, ethical, competent, culturally aware, and trauma-informed nursing care to clients accessing the primary care nursing room. Record, report and organize the need for maintenance or repair of equipment including but not limited to the ECG machine, liquid nitrogen, O2 tanks, and vaccine fridge. Maintains and ensures best practices around the infection prevention control for the clinic and sterilization procedures for the medical clinic. Be informed of provincial lab routines and maintain standards and staff training around phlebotomy and lab services. On-site lab coverage as needed. Create an approachable, caring and trauma informed environment for clients accessing CUPS services. Share nursing expertise with colleagues and client care teams to increase inter-team knowledge and understanding to support positive client health outcomes. Contribute to safety and wellness of clients, colleagues and visitors by remaining up to date on and adhering to CUPS health & safety protocols. Act as warden for client dignity by ensuring confidential client information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with HIPA and CUPS privacy protocols & values. Act as ambassador of CUPS mission and values both internally and externally. Provide on-going health care in an interdisciplinary team setting to clients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases such as mental health and substance use, communicable diseases, and/or general health issues. Provide trauma informed health care to all patients within the RN Scope of practice as outlined by the CRNA practice standards. Provide client centered support to clients who use substances, including those seeking education on safe use practices, harm reduction, withdrawal management, stabilization and/or sobriety. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, other health care professionals/providers and educational resources to achieve excellence in client-centered care and education. Use harm reduction, culturally aware, and trauma-informed principles to conduct physical and mental health assessments, identify challenges, and address issues with the plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and any other health care services involved. Provide direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care as part of the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with other service providers to establish, maintain and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.

What You Bring:



3-5 years' experience working in an acute-care environment Well-developed clinical and physical assessment skills including experience with mental health assessments Ability to respectfully collaborate with an interdisciplinary team Ability to handle, move and lift heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals Ability to perform all work-related duties in accordance with regulated legislature Ability to communicate effectively with clients of various ages, socioeconomic status and ethnic backgrounds Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills Ability to be self-directed and able to exercise independent nursing judgment Nursing practice based in Harm Reduction Principles and Trauma Informed Care

Employment Requirements:



Completion of an accredited nursing education program Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) Current basic First Aid and CPR certification

Work Conditions



May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients. Exposure to stressful events and trauma.
