The Culinary Worker supports the Culinary Management Team as requested and maintains the cleanliness of customer seating areas, server area, drink station, and condiment stations. Culinary Workers provide all aspects of excellent customer services, following service standards, and delivering the service promise as well as extensive meal plan, menu and, allergy knowledge.

Nature of Work:
The work is routine, and tasks are repetitive with little complexity. All tasks are well defined and performed within established guidelines. The work requires a high level of physical demand. Problems experienced are routine and incumbents are expected to solve them by applying established guidelines set by procedures, asking senior staff members, or by referring to a manager who will determine the appropriate course of action. Communications are also routine and typically one-on-one in nature. They involve contact with students, staff, faculty, and visitors with a strong emphasis on customer service. Incumbents are expected to learn to work effectively and cooperatively with others, to develop team skills
.
Incumbent may be required to stand for long hours and may be required to lift items up to 30 lbs. The role can be physically demanding and may require doing repetitive tasks.
Schedule will be determined depending on the business demands. You may have to work early in the mornings, evenings, weekends, and stat holidays.
Typical Duties/Accountabilities
Cleans customer seating areas quickly and efficiently
Cleans touch points and frequently used areas
Review the menu for the day. Make yourself aware of what is being served and allergies that go along with each item
Knowledge about current meal plans
Adapts to and works calmly in an intermittently fast paced and stressful environment
Taking directions from the Culinary Manager, works cooperatively with other staff to ensure seamless guest service. This includes but is not limited to covering sick and vacation time
Treats all confidential information and materials in a confidential manner
Communicates issues of importance or concern to the immediate manager in a timely manner
Collaborates with others as required to complete assignments and support team efforts. Works to resolve conflicts and maintain harmony among co-workers. Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
Effectively completes assigned projects as directed. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills
Shows initiative and willingly works independently
Complies with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. Exercises judgment in the application thereof
Participates as an active and supportive member of the Culinary Services team
Cash Handling - friendly, accurate and efficient processing of customer payments. At times, count floats, manage coin floats. Works with point-of-sale terminal, cash out terminals & prepare deposits
Prepare some food, as required. Performs some merchandising, cleaning, stocking. Maintain service areas, coolers, storerooms in a clean and orderly way
Takes direction from the Culinary Manger as well as more experienced staff members such as the team leader
Follows standards, policies and procedures set out by Culinary Services
Works with the Culinary Manager to solve minor interpersonal problems within the location
Maintains and keeps up with changing menu knowledge and allergy information
Qualifications
Education:
The incumbent requires a Grade 12 and a Food Safe Certificate. A minimum of two years of experience working in a commercial retail setting is also required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
Previous cash handling experience would be an asset. Previous food and beverage experience would be considered an asset. Knowledge and understanding of the meal plan Culinary Services offer would be an asset. Knowledge of allergies would be considered an asset.
