Silvera for Seniors is currently hiring for a Full-Time 1 year Contract CULINARY SUPERVISOR . This position will be based at our Beaverdam Commons Community, located at 2012 - 66 Ave SE.

Reporting directly to the Community Manager, the Culinary Supervisor supervises, provides training, coordinates, and contributes to the activities of cooks and other kitchen personnel engaged in preparing and cooking foods at Silvera for Seniors.

Hours of work: 9:00 am to 5:30pm

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates activities of and directs training of Cooks and other kitchen workers engaged in preparing and cooking food at Silvera for Seniors to ensure efficient, economical, timely and profitable food services production.
  • Ensure compliance to all safe food handling practices in accordance with Board of Health regulations. Establishes and enforces nutrition and sanitation standards for each Community.
  • Determines food consumption and requisitions or purchases foodstuffs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Oversee the work schedules, job duty updates, leave requests and approves payroll submissions of dining services staff to ensure all shifts are staffed and paid as required.
  • Provide leadership and training to all Dining staff, supporting the understanding and communication of Silvera\'s dining service vision and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recruits, trains, and develops and discharges dining service staff to meet the needs and goals of the facility and program. Consistently applies knowledge of Silvera\'s policy and procedures, and employment standards and legislation to manage the employment cycle.
  • Provide direction and supervision to all dining services staff including completion of performance reviews and dealing with issues, including conflict resolution.
  • Maintain a visible presence by meeting with residents, communicating with them, discussing comment card feedback, and resolving any service or food quality issues.
  • Coordinate and lead bi-monthly meetings with the Hospitality Supervisor and Resident Dining Council within the community to maintain transparent communication in promoting Silvera\'s dining services vision.
  • Takes a lead role at the community in the absence of the Cook, Hospitality Supervisor, Assistant Community Manager, Community Manager or Administrative Coordinator as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Observes methods of food preparation and cooking, sizes of portions and garnishing of foods to ensure food is prepared in prescribed manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess certification, or willingness to attend training from a professional culinary institution; Journeyman Red Seal, Professional Cooking Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Supervisory experience in catering, restaurant, or in a similar capacity within institutions or senior citizen\'s facilities. Equivalencies may be considered
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and proven ability to motivate others towards continuous improvement in all aspects of Dining Services
  • Genuine interest and commitment to work with seniors in a compassionate, dignified, and respectful manner
  • Must be able to work independently, as a team member, and demonstrate strong organizational skills to be able to meet deadlines
  • Flexible, willing, with positive attitude and excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Strong customer service focus and the ability to relate well with all community members
  • Possess a high standard of hygiene and personal appearance
  • Willingness to attend courses as requested by Silvera
  • Must have current First aid, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling Course
  • Intermediate capacity to work with computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with Sysco Synergy MealSuite software considered an asset
