The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, the CT/IR Technologist II is responsible for performing CT/IR procedures and radiology exams for the purpose of medical diagnosis.
The CT/IR Tech II ensures that CT/IR services reflect the principals of family centered care; communicates effectively; resolves conflict in a respectful manner; promotes interdisciplinary collaborative care; utilizes resources effectively; helps to maintains a CT/IR Safety program; promotes a culture of patient safety.

The CT/IR Tech II is responsible for performing CT/IR procedures for the purpose of medical diagnosis including, but not limited to: assessing requisitions, liaising and coordinating with the attending radiologist for appropriate examinations; obtaining pertinent patient information including contrast and CT/IR contraindications; ensuring patients are informed about procedures and are properly prepared prior to commencement of exam; performing intravenous initiation and maintenance; selecting techniques to provide quality imaging while keeping radiation exposure to patients and staff as low as possible; practicing sterile technique when required; and performance of clerical duties related to the care of the patient.

Hours of Work

7.5-hour shifts, weekdays plus stand-by, on-call, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Radiation Technology required;
  • CT certificate is preferred
  • Current or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy(NSMIRTP)
  • Radiology experience with paediatric imaging is preferred
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS)Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions and work as part of an interdisciplinary team required
  • Must be willing to obtain continuing education
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Well-developed decision making, interpretation, negotiation and problem-solving skills necessary
  • Must have an exemplary attendance record
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
