Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a CT scanner to produce high-quality diagnostic images. The incumbent will apply comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, CT imaging principles, and independent clinical judgment to support the accurate diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare and calibrate CT imaging and related equipment prior to examinations
Review patient history (including allergies, renal function, medications, etc.) to assess safety for contrast administration
Evaluate and modify scan protocols in collaboration with radiologists based on clinical indications
Position and prepare patients for CT exams; explain procedures, obtain informed consent, and monitor vital signs
Administer IV and rectal contrast; monitor injection parameters and watch for adverse reactions
Operate CT scanners using appropriate protocols to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure (following ALARA principles)
Post-process images including 3D reconstructions, multiplanar reformats, and annotations for diagnostic and surgical planning
Assist or scrub in with radiologists during interventional CT procedures when required
Review prior imaging studies and bloodwork to identify potential contraindications
Perform and document quality control checks; ensure equipment is functioning properly
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area
Accurately capture professional billing codes in compliance with OHIP regulations
Manage PACS/RIS workflows; ensure proper exam coding, priority status, and timely image validation
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and maintain readiness of emergency equipment (e.g. crash cart, anaphylaxis kits)
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance efforts
Corporate Responsibilities:
Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
Skills & Qualifications:
Registration and good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required
Minimum 1-3 years of related experience in CT imaging
Current CPR Certification (BLS) is required; ACLS is conside*red an asset Certification to initiate IVs is required
Infection Control Certification is considered an asset
Strong knowledge of cross-sectional and vascular anatomy, contrast media safety, and radiation safety
Proficient in computer-assisted reformations/reconstructions
Ability to operate and troubleshoot CT imaging equipment, as well as PACS and RIS systems
Strong patient care skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, structured documentation
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage workflow, and meet deadlines independently
Proven problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience resolving moderately complex operational or technical issues
Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professional discretion
Ability to teach and share expert-level job knowledge with colleagues
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check
Provide proof of Immunization and TB records
