About the Faculty of Science and Technology

Mount Royal University\xe2\x80\x99s Faculty of Science and Technology is accepting applications for a part-time appointment for the Winter semester which will commence January and end April 2024. The Faculty of Science and Technology offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. Students can pursue majors in biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, general science, mathematics, and geology. The Earth and Environmental Sciences department, within the Faculty of Science and Technology, supports three disciplines: Environmental Science, Geography, and Geology.

About the Role

The department is seeking a qualified professional with the ability to teach the following course: Crystallography and Optical Mineralogy Days & Times Offered: Winter 2024 term (January 4, 2024 - April 8, 2024), Monday and Wednesday 11:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. Course Description: An introduction to crystallography and the structure of minerals, elements of symmetry, and the interrelationship of crystal structure to the optical and chemical properties of minerals. Laboratory component comprises transmitted light microscopic examination of rock-forming minerals and the identification of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Course delivery including preparation and assessments of lectures, and course D2L Brightspace site; and
  • Administration: submit course attendance sheets and final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree is required in Geology or a closely-related discipline with a PhD preferred.
  • Significant experience instructing undergraduate courses.
