This is a temporary six month position.

Your role

CBC Newfoundland and Labrador, is looking for a Reporter / Editor based in St John\xe2\x80\x99s who will primarily be assigned digital but will also contribute to other platforms. Those platforms include radio, social and broadcast. Keeping with corporate standards and policies, the Journalist will write and produce content daily.

Key tasks:

Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas for cbc.ca that will engage and inform the audience, with a focus on a younger diverse audience.

Take photos and video when required for digital purposes.

Regularly present stories on radio and video platforms, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience\xe2\x80\x99s understanding of issues.

Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.

Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.

Create content that falls outside of what is considered traditional news, focusing on a younger audience.

Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and coordinate long-term coverage.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.

Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

A passion for live radio both from the field and in-studio.

Great interview skills resulting from a curiosity about the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Excellent audio gathering and editing skills.

Knowledge of all CBC platforms - digital, current affairs, radio news and broadcast.

Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.

Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.

University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.

Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Possession of a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada\'s insurance company.

Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
