Fresh4Sunset Farms Ltd. ("the company") is a greenhouse farming operation growing vegetables and berries under glass in Delta, BC. Along with Fresh4U Farms Ltd. in Abbotsford and Creekside Hothouses in Surrey and Aldergrove, our farms form the Fresh4U Group.

About the role:



The

Crop Labour Supervisor

will lead and oversee the daily production tasks of the greenhouse crop worker team. This position is responsible for leading, organizing, and the prioritization of crop workers, including their development and training needs.

Responsibilities:



Manages all crop labour requirements:



Work closely with the grower and other members of our team to determine crop work, work schedules and budgeted time expectations Provide training for workers in all crop activities and equipment use. This includes training and orientation on standard operating procedures, Priva FS readers, Food Safety, and any required safety training (e.g. Carts, inspection logs, pressure washing, etc.) Assign duties to the crop workers in each growing area and then direct and supervise the teams to meet timelines and complete tasks Ensure that worker have all the supplies, tools, equipment or materials needed to be as productive as possible (i.e. Boxes, carts, grow medium, plants, knives, etc.) Ensure that picked produce is protected for utmost quality (i.e. covered on hot days) and in the warehouse by day's end Daily approval of the timesheets in Payworks and weekly approval of timesheets of labour contractors Monitoring the workers usage of the Priva FS equipment (at least two times per day), checking the activities and making changes to correct any errors in the system (Delta only) Constant communication with the Priva clerk in analysing the data and producing labour and efficiency reports from the data (Delta only) Constant monitoring of the speed and work quality of the workers and reporting issues to the grower Crop related tasks assigned by grower (i.e. pest management, pollination, weekly crop registration). Tasks to be completed in timely manner after delivery of time-sensitive products Work with Human Resources and grower to develop and execute a plan for any worker not meeting standards, including training and/or disciplinary action Ensure that workforce cleans all areas and all equipment at end of each shift and that doors are locked after the last worker has left at the end of a shift Look ahead and plan for next day production labour needs and supplies Collaboration with grower to determine weekly forecasts Notify payroll of any changes needed for readers, absences, injuries or missing time Provide performance feedback to employees on a regular basis to encourage a motivated workforce Detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures or problems and initiate corrective actions as necessary Collaborating on solutions for improvements when standards are not being met Report repairs and maintenance issues to operation manager immediately after receiving reports from worker Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures, which include (but are not limited to) forms for extra hours of work, timesheets, data inputs for growers and programs such as Food Safety checklists, WorksafeBC reporting, Temporary Foreign Workers program, etc.

Communication:



Attend daily and weekly communication meetings inside the company, including with workers, growers, warehouse supervisor and operations management in order to meet customer orders Communicating clear expectations to crop workers to achieve production goals. Workers are expected to understand what the goals are (plants planted/hour, plants packed/hour, plants pinched/hour, etc) and the quality of work that is expected to be achieved. Regular meetings with growers to report on labour efficiencies and budgets

Food Safety:



Ensure Food Safety Program procedures are followed in the crop areas; complete all forms Participate in Food Safety Audits

Environment:



Work environment can be warm and humid Lifting up to 30 lbs. Standing and walking for long periods of time. Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching

Candidate requirements:



Education:



None required Preferred: Post-secondary coursework in any of the following Forestry, Horticulture, Agriculture, or similar fields of study or equivalent

Licensing/Registrations/Certifications:



First Aid, Level II Forklift Certification

Experience



Experience as a supervisor or leader: the ideal candidate should be familiar and comfortable with coaching and monitoring workers while remaining respectful and positive

Other Skills, knowledge and/or abilities:



Spanish Language
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
