Part time/ Seasonal (April to September)
Location: Witdouck Farms - Iron Springs, Alberta
We're looking for an ambitious individual to join our close-knit team at our farm in Iron Springs, where we all work together year-round to grow a large variety of crops and vegetables. As a seasonal Crop and Field Agronomist you will be involved in aspects of canola seed production from seeding to harvest.
Job Tasks
Monitoring the stages and health of crops.
Scouting fields for weeds, diseases and insects especially in periods of high disease and insect pressure.
Leading a rouging crew of 20 or more people.
Helping with other seasonal tasks all around the farm
Communicating with customers and helping move and load grains.
Job requirements
Agronomic knowledge (willing to understand process)
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Must have a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to travel to fields independently as needed.
Occasionally exposed to extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.)
Must be able to walk fields for an extended period.
Education and Experience
One year of college experience in an agriculture focused program or other specialized training in agriculture.
Previous experience in agriculture.

Data Collection and Scouting: Able to diligently take notes and use tools at your disposal for consistent reporting. Early identification of emerging issues and communication of risk levels to agronomists and growers.
Communication and Relationship Management: Clear and effective communication with grower and agronomist regarding scouting findings and management suggestions. Preparing concise reports or summaries for internal use, allowing for effective teamwork keeping everyone involved up to date.
Personal Attributes: Attentive to detail as small symptoms can indicate crop issues while being proactive in diagnosing those irregularities. Curiosity, Problem-solving and adaptability being able to work in all conditions all while staying reliable and consistent with reporting.
Teamwork: Promotes teamwork and can manage a team. Extremely cooperative and consistently going out of their way to help others. Establishes good rapport with all employees and customers and treats them all with courtesy and respect.
Attendance/Dependability: Completely reliable completing tasks to the fullest extent possible. Always prompt in attendance and ready to work.
Hours of work: Typically, 7:00am-5:30pm Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and longer hours during our peak periods.
Working conditions: Will be during the summer and mainly outside driving a farm truck to the canola fields for scouting and while rouging will be spending majority of the day in the field with the crew. Must be able to work extended hours, particularly in peak season.
