About the Opportunity

The Crisis Intervener delivers crisis support services to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis as well as community organizations and families/friends who are supporting them. The support includes triage of the caller, clinical assessment of the client\'s psychiatric or mental health status, the current situation, and risk of harm to self or others; to provide interventions, information, education and problem-solving facilitation that are culturally sensitive and nonjudgmental; referral and disposition to appropriate services and resources. The intervention strategies include crisis prevention (e.g. case conference, precise planning), intervention (full stages of intervention) and (e.g. follow up immediately after the crisis). The interventions take place on the phone as well as in the community. The Crisis Intervener will have the opportunity to provide consultation, education, liaising and advocacy services to community organizations and support persons as deemed appropriate. The Crisis Intervener is a licensed professional, accountable to their applicable code of ethics, who is able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Social Work or health related discipline from a recognized university with up to date applicable licensure and Nova Scotia registration
  • Two (2) years\' experience with a specific knowledge of mental health issues; knowledge of crisis intervention issues and ability to implement these interventions in order to achieve evidence-based outcomes; knowledge of system related issues-community and government services and resources. Ability to achieve a degree of autonomous practice and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is required
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention Training, Defensive Driving Certificate, CPR
  • Working knowledge of the Hospitals Act as it pertains to Mental Health. Ability to complete brief psychiatric assessment and mental status exam; basic working knowledge and understanding of DSM-5
  • Skills required to work effectively and safely through a combination of phone and on-site assessment and intervention
  • Sound working knowledge of community resources and government legislation as it pertains to resources and client services
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal, clinical and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of community and government organizations, agencies, and services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice of individual, family, and community systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members and the community
  • Knowledge and understanding of current social, health and community trends, which may impact on individuals accessing the MHMCT and the provision of service in general
  • Ability to adhere to district and service policies and procedures and guidelines when carrying out duties
  • Demonstrates competent computer skills
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver\'s License
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Long Assignment Full Time position; 75 hours biweekly

Compensation and Incentives

$33.97 - $42.89 Hourly

Developmental (Less than 2yrs experience) $32.32 - $39.23 Hourly
