Visit us today and check out to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.About the OpportunityBe a part of the transformative effort to expand Mobile Crisis services in support of the national suicidal crisis line 988: Suicide Crisis Helpline. 988 is a 3-digit suicide distress helpline that is providing urgent, live, and trauma-informed support via phone and text 24/7. Join our established interdisciplinary mobile crisis team as we continue our commitment to driving positive change and supporting Nova Scotians in crisis.As the Crisis Intervenor on the Provincial Crisis Team, under the direction the Health Services Manager, delivers crisis support services to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis as well as community organizations and families/friends who are supporting them.The support includes triage of the caller, clinical assessment of the client\'s psychiatric or mental health status, overall health status, the current situation, and risk to self or others. Intervention to provide culturally sensitive and non-judgmental support, education and problem-solving facilitation; and referral or disposition to appropriate services and resource deemed necessary. The interventions include crisis prevention, intervention, and follow-up immediately after the crisis. Interventions take place on the phone, as well as in the community.The Crisis Intervenor would work in a multidisciplinary team providing support and consultation as needed and will participate in program development and evaluation and quality improvement on an ongoing basis. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing an integrated crisis intervention service with an interdisciplinary team including the IWK, Halifax Regional Police and EHS across the age spectrum.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Social Work, Graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy, Recognized MSc in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university program or other health related discipline from a recognized university with up to date applicable licensure and Nova Scotia registration
  • Two (2) years\' experience with a specific knowledge of mental health issues required
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention issues and ability to implement these interventions to achieve evidence-based outcomes; knowledge of system related issues-community and government services and resources. Ability to achieve a degree of autonomous practice and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is required
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention Training, CPR
  • Working knowledge of the Hospitals Act as it pertains to Mental Health. Ability to complete brief psychiatric assessment and mental status exam; basic working knowledge and understanding of DSM-5
  • Skills required to work effectively and safely through a combination of phone and on-site assessment and intervention
  • Sound working knowledge of community resources and government legislation as it pertains to resources and client services; Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice of individual, family, and community systems
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, effective interpersonal, clinical and assessment skills, Demonstrated competent computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members and the community
  • Knowledge and understanding of current social, health and community trends, which may impact on individuals accessing the MHMCT and the provision of service in general
  • Ability to adhere to district and service policies and procedures and guidelines when carrying out duties
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver\'s License an asset.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
