This position works in the Police - Records Management organizational unit. This is specialized research work involving the application of moderately advanced research and analytical techniques to support criminal investigative activities and the development of detachment projects and programs. An employee of this class collects, evaluates, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data and information; monitors and identifies crime patterns, trends, and other factors; participates and provides analytical support in the development of projects and programs; prepares reports and recommendations based upon analysis; and establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in carrying out assignments, discussing unusual, more complex or policy issues with a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of quality of services rendered and achievement of desired results. Performs related work as required.


Qualifications include the completion of a University graduation in criminology, economics, geography, mathematics or related discipline, preferably supplemented by completion of a forensic investigation diploma at a technical institute plus sound experience in related work or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of research, statistical and analytical principles, practices, procedures, methods and techniques such as mapping is required. Sound knowledge of the criminal justice system; police information systems and other related computer application programs such as MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint are required. Knowledge of other computer programs such as PRIME, ArcGIS, IBM i2 Analysts Notebook, Tableau, JUSTIN, CORNET, CPIC, GeoTime are considered assets. The incumbent should also have experience with sourcing and providing written reports and recommendations based on an analysis of complex information. Ability to perform detailed research and analytical tasks, to interpret statistical and narrative data and prepare forecasts, projections and reports; to present conclusions and recommendations both orally and in written form. The ability to be flexible as work priorities often change and must be able to work under tight time constraints. A valid Driver's license for the Province of British Columbia is required. The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance. Must be able to pass EDCAS Analyst exam, and to obtain and maintain RCMP Top Secret Security Clearance.
