Role Summary:
The Craftsman is responsible for checking all finished product to ensure products are free of damage and infestation, product code dates are properly recorded and products match engineering requirements. The role includes operating powered equipment for the purpose of surface finishing, connection installation and application of coatings, while ensuring safe and efficient operating practices are followed at all times.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Perform repairs to product surfaces as required.
Operate powered equipment to carry out surface finishing tasks.
Install connections in accordance with engineered drawings.
Apply coatings as specified in engineered drawings.
Maintain the facility and its equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly condition; perform daily inspections on all operated equipment.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by offering suggestions, engaging in problem-solving, and participating in committees or focus groups, with a focus on solution-oriented outcomes.
Ensure all completed work meets established quality specifications and standards.
Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Report any safety, quality, maintenance, or production concerns to the supervisor.
Participate in or lead special assignments as required.
All other duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications & Core Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to complete detailed surface repairs and apply coatings as per engineered specifications.
Proficient in operating powered equipment used for surface finishing and product installation.
Strong mechanical aptitude with a focus on accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
Capable of interpreting and executing work based on technical drawings and engineered plans.
High attention to detail in both hands-on work and technical documentation.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to Health & Safety policies.
Effective problem-solver with a willingness to participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to take initiative and support special assignments as needed.
Education & Experience:
Post-secondary education in carpentry or woodworking is considered an asset.
Completion of a forklift training program is an asset.
5+ years of hands-on experience in woodworking or carpentry-related roles.
Proven track record working with carpentry and woodworking tools in a production or manufacturing setting.
Experience conducting daily equipment inspections and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
Familiarity with forklift operations; certification or previous training considered an asset.
Working Conditions & Environment:
Production environment with exposure to noise and dust.
Frequent movement, including climbing stairs and standing for extended periods.
Ability to safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times while on the production floor.
