DESCRIPTION:

The ATCO Group has an exciting employment opportunity for CPA Candidates to join the Calgary or Edmonton Pre-Approved CPA Program (\xe2\x80\x9cProgram\xe2\x80\x9d). This Program provides the unique opportunity of gaining valuable work experience in industry while working towards your CPA designation. We are looking for passionate, dedicated, technology adept Candidates to join our team.

The successful CPA Candidates will progress through various rotations over their 30-month practical experience term, in either Calgary or Edmonton, in our Business Units and our Corporate/ Common Group functions.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

ATCO CPA Pre-Approved Program

ATCO\'s CPA Pre-Approved Program provides Candidates with 30 months of practical work experience required to attain the CPA designation. CPA Candidates progress through various rotations which last approximately 6 months to 18 months. Rotations are assigned based on business priorities, your area of development and, where possible, area of personal interest. During rotations, the Candidate will assume progressively complex responsibilities to earn the technical competencies The Candidate will receive focused support and mentorship throughout the 30-month program duration.

Sample of Responsibilities:

A sample of responsibilities during rotations vary and could include the following:

  • Performing:
  • routine and complex journal entries
  • account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • internal audits over financial or information technology processes
  • testing of internal controls over financial reporting (C-SOX) and internal controls over ESG reporting
  • Preparing and analyzing:
  • audit packs and various support schedules
  • financial statements including note disclosures
  • management\'s discussion and analysis
  • budgets and forecasts
  • internal management reporting and various analysis
  • market analysis
  • tax models and corporate tax returns
  • Evaluating / reviewing:
  • accounting policies and procedures
  • apply knowledge of IFRS and GAAP
  • obtain and review documents from Business Units for financial statement preparation process
  • Demonstrating enabling competency development throughout all rotations
All Candidates are expected to be continuously enrolled and successfully complete all modules of the CPA PEP during their 30-month practical experience work term. It is the Candidate\'s responsibility to effectively manage both work and studies. The CPA Program Manager must be kept up to date of your progress and any deviations from the expected timeline.

WHO YOU ARE:
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, strong attention to detail, exercising discretion, judgment, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills that enable the Candidate to present identified problems and facilitate problem resolution
  • Strong problem solving, creative thinking, and analytical skills
  • Very good working knowledge of excel and word
  • Bachelor\'s degree with CPA PEP pre-requisite business and accounting courses
  • Successful academic record - university transcripts (required***), and CPA PEP transcript assessment (if degree already completed)
  • CPA Candidates already enrolled in CPA PEP must provide:
  • CPA Program Progress
  • Any Practical Experience Reporting Tool (PERT) Reports + Consolidated Summary
  • Self-assessment of competencies earned to date, if no experience reports in PERT
  • Ability to produce results with accuracy and quality
  • Work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
***Applications without complete academic records, as noted above, will not be considered. Applicants must meet the qualifications outlined by CPA Alberta for admission to the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) Professional Education Program (PEP). Applicants that have already graduated with their bachelor\'s degree should provide proof of admission to PEP with their application, or be in the process of obtaining a transcript assessment for admission. If an applicant\'s degree is still in progress, they must ensure their remaining coursework has the required perquisites for admission, and provide proof of degree completion and admission to PEP by their employment start date. University transcripts are required on the application regardless if your degree has been completed or is still in progress.
