SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, oversees the day-to-day operations of a teaching laboratory. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Plans and organizes laboratory schedules. Coordinates provision of equipment and materials. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Liaises between staff and students. Performs duties related to administering laboratory sections and examinations. Coordinates production of course documents. Maintains equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees the day-to-day operations of a teaching laboratory. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Confers with professors concerning the scope and objectives of teaching laboratory sessions.

Plans and organizes laboratory schedules. Reviews existing experiments. Performs literature searches; reviews, selects and modifies methodology. Tests, evaluates and participates in devising new methodology and experiments.

Assesses equipment needs. Coordinates provision of equipment and materials. Designs or fabricates specialized equipment as required. Oversees set-up of equipment and demonstrations. Oversees equipment loans.

Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks within field of expertise.

Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results.

Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing.

Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material. Ensures timed purchase of perishables and live specimens. Arranges for permits for restricted specimens.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Degree in Healthcare discipline or Medical Technology

Combination of education, training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in possession of the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of this position.

Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.

Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field such as EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession certification and training.

Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.

Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.

Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.

Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Ability to quickly learn new technology

Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Minimum Education and Experience: DEC III - Medical Laboratory Technology 4 Years Related Experience /

Hourly Salary: (MUNACA Level H) $33.05 - $40.97

Hours per Week: 35 (Full time)
