EDPI 309 Diverse Learners

Curriculum and Instruction: Ed Psych & Couns (Inclusive) : Inclusion debates; review of the evolution of the history of inclusive education; models of development ( eco-systemic models); characteristics, teaching practices; teachers\' roles in inclusive classrooms. Overview of characteristics, causes, needs, and teaching strategies for diverse and exceptional students, teaching and learning for differences in intellectual, emotional, behavioural, sensory, physical and learning domains found in effective inclusive classrooms. Working with families.

Weeks 1 & 3 (In Person): T,W & R, 9am-12pm & 1:30pm-4:00pm;

Week 2 (Online): T & R, 9am-12pm

Location:

741 - Mistissini

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education

  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s or PhD in Educational Psychology, Human Development, Applied Psychology, Child Development, Clinical Psychology, or equivalent.
OFNIE Additional Requirements:
  • A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)
Experience
  • Knowledge of educational and psychological theories
  • Knowledge of the application of educational and psychological theories to authentic settings
  • Experience in college/university teaching in this subject or professional experience in teaching K-12
  • Knowledge of Minist\xc3\xa8re de l\xe2\x80\x99\xc3\x89ducation et de l\xe2\x80\x99Enseignement sup\xc3\xa9rieur (MEES) requirements
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Inclusive Education
  • Training and experience working in schools with students with diverse needs.
OFNIE Additional Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description
  • Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
  • Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Minist\xc3\xa8re de l\xe2\x80\x99\xc3\x89ducation
  • Experience as a teacher, administrator, or consultant in the partnering school board for which this course is being delivered.
  • Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
  • Experience developing instructional approaches and/or policy grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Other
  • If the applicant has taught this course exactly once previously, she/he must have had satisfactory teaching evaluations in this course that meet the Department\xe2\x80\x99s expectations. This requirement does not apply to applicants who have taught the course at least twice
  • If the applicant has not taught this course previously, but has taught in the hiring unit previously, she/he must have had satisfactory teaching evaluations that meet the Department\xe2\x80\x99s expectations
  • Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field
OFNIE Additional Requirements
  • This course must be modified to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
  • Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date
  • Preferred candidate will have demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts and connection to First Nations and Inuit communities.
