As Country Merchant, you will support all buying initiatives necessary to meet P&H procurement objectives. Reporting to the Director of Merchandising, the Country Merchant will work closely with Logistics/Transportation and the Merchandising Department to maximize efficiencies and communication for the overall P&H grain procurement program.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily direction from Merchandising Department with regards to grain purchasing opportunities
  • Monitor and Understand regional purchase position statements
  • Daily morning calls to Country Staff (RPM / CSR / GM) with opportunities and market direction
  • Bring forward market information and opportunities from country staff to Merchandising
  • Assist Elevator staff and identify grain opportunities to increase country grain handle
  • Coordinate shipping schedule with Elevator Manager and Logistics
  • Understand Merchant programs and apply to grain operations and origination
  • Be initial contact person for managers, operation managers, CSR and admin staff
  • Stay up to date with producer pricing targets, crop quality
  • Monitor elevator inventory, producer contracts, logistic execution
  • Monitor shipped grades vs unload grades for each elevator
  • Review country budgets weekly/monthly and identify areas of concern
  • Lead and manage country purchase contracts and contract buy backs
  • Assist in all country contract disputes and follow up as required with NGFA
  • Facilitate weekly regional calls
  • Coordinate & monitor all blending transactions
  • Coordinate off farm shipping programs
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in an agricultural based business;
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in grain merchandising and /or procurement related role;
  • Post-secondary education in administration or agriculture or equivalent experience;
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian prairie agriculture business;
  • Truck and Rail logistic coordination experience;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with high level Excel skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Decision making and problem solving skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required;
  • Ability to travel.
