Jessie's - The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service, drop-in centre for pregnant young women, young parents and their children. Jessie's work includes a broad spectrum of services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessie's operates from a feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a woman's right to make choices about their sexual health and pregnancy options.

The Counsellor/Case Worker operates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and provides an entry point into the Centre and actively seeks to build, develop, and maintain a supportive relationship with participants. The Counsellor provides case management and counselling to a caseload of approximately 40-50 participants.

Referral, advocacy, and accompaniments
Facilitation of personal development and parenting groups
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), psychology, or a related program and/or an equivalent combination of education/experience
5 + years' experience working with youth and communities experiencing marginalization and underrepresentation, in particular racialized communities, newcomers/immigrant populations and those living in poverty
3 + years' experience providing counselling and support to youth, particularly women, in relation to issues such as homelessness, mental health, trauma, substance use, parenting, family support and unification, and accessing legal support, immigration, housing, welfare, employment and education
Experience assessing and prioritizing needs and knowledge of community-based resources and government agencies related to the needs young families
Experience working in a drop-in setting and in facilitating groups
Solid understanding and experience with various counselling models and techniques
Requirements
Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks in an efficient manner.
Ability to manage conflict, crises and escalating situations calmly and confidently
Demonstrates an understanding of the issues and challenges facing pregnant and parenting youth.
Professional belief system that is compatible with the mission statement, beliefs, and aims of Jessie's Centre.
Demonstrates an ability to contribute to the development and maintenance of respectful, productive working relationships.
Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team
