Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience ($64,668 - $88,462)

*This is a term position until November 29, 2024*

Student Counselling Services at the University of Winnipeg seeks an experienced Counsellor to provide a wide variety of personal counselling services to our students within a diverse, academic setting. This is a term appointment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides intake, assessment, care planning, individual and group counselling around a range of issues.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a student centered, trauma informed and culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive, inclusive and holistic framework.
  • Works within a shared cared setting, using a stepped care model to support student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Responds to students in distress or crisis, and assesses, intervenes, liaises and refers students to other supports or services, as appropriate.
  • Provides advocacy on behalf of students\xe2\x80\x99 expressed needs with internal and external contacts.
  • Collaborates with colleagues around health and wellness promotion for the campus.
  • Responsible for university-wide initiatives related to student health and well-being.
  • Offers consultation to staff and faculty related to student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Responds to requests and offers education to students, faculty, staff as requested in the form of workshops, presentations, and meetings.
  • Consults with students, staff, faculty, and off-campus community agencies as it relates to building awareness and capacity on student mental health and wellbeing.
The Successful Candidate will:
  • Have a Graduate degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another related discipline.
  • Be registered/licensed with an appropriate professional body.
  • Have training in crisis response, risk assessment, sexual violence and suicide intervention.
  • Have a minimum of five years clinical experience.
  • Possess experience counselling populations presenting a vast diversity of issues and have a demonstrated ability to respond effectively to any presenting issue including suicide, trauma and crisis.
  • Be committed to supporting all students, with experience counselling young adults and working with diverse and marginalized persons and communities.
  • Have experience working from an anti-oppressive, trauma informed, culturally sensitive student-centered perspective.
  • Possess experience in working with sexual violence and mental health.
  • Have experience facilitating workshops, groups and presentations.
  • Experienced in planning initiatives and events around mental health and wellness.
  • Be experienced in navigating local health and social service community resources.
