About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addictions, the counsellor provides individual and group counselling for individuals who may have addictions to drugs, alcohol or gambling, to help them identify their behaviors and teach coping/life skills The counsellor provides a range of clinical services for clients including screening, education sessions, Support/ Psychoeducation Groups, didactic presentations, case monitoring and record keeping. The Counsellor works closely within the multidisciplinary team, with community resources, and the broader Mental Health & Addictions team to provide a continuum of care. The Counsellor will also provide counselling/support for family members and significant others.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • An undergraduate degree or college diploma (two years) related to human services, health or social sciences is required
  • One (1) year related experience
  • CPR Certification
  • CPI Certification
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
  • Experienced in motivational interviewing skills, group facilitation skills, anger management techniques and knowledge about addiction/treatment/recovery
  • Experience with concurrent disorders
  • Experience in suicide intervention screening
  • Proficiency in computer programs
  • Counselling courses
  • Competencies in other languages as asset, French preferred
