Counsellor Advocate 3 Year Term

Steinbach, MB, CA, Canada

Job Description

Agape House Eastman Crisis Centre Inc. has been providing essential services to Southeast Manitoba since 1985. As a charitable non-profit organization and one of 10 women's shelters in Manitoba, we are proud to see an average of over 200 clients per year. We are committed to helping survivors of domestic violence make informed decisions that will assist them in leading lives free from abuse.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated professional to help launch and manage a vital Sexual Assault Program in Southeast Manitoba. This region, with its diverse and growing population, currently lacks specialized support for survivors of sexual assault. Our goal is to provide essential services such as counselling, hospital transportation, and advocacy during police statements, addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals in rural areas. A dedicated program will bridge the gap in services, ensuring that survivors receive immediate care, emotional support, and consistent advocacy throughout their healing journey.

Part of the role will also involve building strong relationships with rural communities within our catchment area, working with local organizations, and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of location or background, have access to the support they deserve. If you are a team-oriented individual looking for meaningful and exciting work, we would love to hear from you!

This role is a

three (3) year term 1.0 FTE Counsellor Advocate

The project aims to address community needs related to sexual assault and gender-based violence (GBV) by implementing several key activities:

Community Research: Conduct outreach to organizations like Survivor's Hope to identify gaps in support for survivors. Program Development: Develop an education program in collaboration with sexual assault services, focusing on best practices and creating a volunteer program. Volunteer Training: Recruit and train volunteers to assist with the program and develop community presentation materials to raise awareness about GBV. Media Campaign: Launch a media campaign to distribute information and resources, particularly targeting rural areas to ensure survivors know how to access support. Organizational Development: Create an organizational development plan with measurable goals to ensure the project's sustainability.
Through these initiatives, the project will support women and children affected by GBV, foster community engagement, and promote awareness about available resources, ultimately contributing to long-term healing for survivors.
