Ascend Pediatrics is expanding, and we're seeking a dedicated and compassionate counselling professional to join our multidisciplinary team in providing counselling and mental health services for children, adolescents, and parents.

Ascend Pediatrics provides a broad range of exceptional clinical multidisciplinary services with a clinic based in Cochrane, Alberta, while additionally serving clients in Calgary and surrounding communities. Provide programming that supports the growth and development of children within a child-centered environment through play-based therapeutic approaches. Meeting with an adolescent, parent, or family? No problem! Our therapy rooms are adaptable so that you can create the welcoming environment your client needs.

Holistic Approach:

Contribute to supporting families in the positive development of mental health, emotional regulation, behavioural supports, social skills, positive relationships, and community engagement.

Collaborative Team Environment:

Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of pediatric therapists, including Behaviour Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Assessment Psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Physiotherapists, and Therapy Aides.

The Role and Responsibilities of the Counselling Therapist:



Engage children, youth, and their families in evidence-based counselling services that are grounded in client-centred, strengths-based, and neurodiversity affirming approaches Work with clients to process their experiences, values, and beliefs that may be impacting the way they perceive the world, themselves and others. Recognize potential barriers these may pose stemming from negative experiences, values, and beliefs that the client has developed Provide in-person or telehealth counselling sessions dependent on the needs of your clients Treatment planning - Working with the child, adolescent, parents, and families to establish their counselling and mental health goals, assessing client and family needs, and monitoring goal progress and outcomes File Management - Completing timely and organized documentation such as record keeping and session notes, and formally updating the progress of treatment goals Case Management - Scheduling sessions, communicating with parents and caregivers via email and phone, and providing clients with appropriate resources Collaborating with the clinic administrative team on content for social media, relaying areas of service the therapist would like to further promote, and participating in quarterly contractor meetings You must comply with Health Professions Act and the standards of practice, guidelines, and code of ethics for the appropriate regulatory body (i.e. CAP, ACSW)

Required Qualifications



Has a Masters Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field Registered with the appropriate regulatory body such as College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), and Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) For Social Workers who may be provisionally registered, internal supervision by an RSW may be negotiated Carry valid Professional Liability Insurance with appropriate coverage for telehealth services, if this is a desired service delivery method of the applicant

We're Looking for a Candidate Who Is:



Able to demonstrate competency in counselling and therapy skills with their desired population of clientele (children, adolescents, parents, and/or families) Organized and timely with completing appropriate documentation, scheduling, and caseload management Comfortable working independently with strong time management skills, as well as open to collaboration with multidisciplinary team Experienced working with children and adolescents of different ages who present with mental health and developmental needs Available for after-school and/or Saturdays for sessions with clients. Possesses knowledge of sensory & self-regulation for children with complex mental health needs and challenging behaviours (considered an asset) Has prior experience providing interventions to diverse groups of children, youth, and emerging adults, with a variety of emotional, behavioural, social, and learning needs (considered an asset)
