Position SummaryAre you a skilled and creative costume technician with a passion for theatre, looking to bring artistic visions to life while overseeing all aspects of costume creation, design, and shop management in a dynamic and collaborative environment? Join us as our new Costume Technician!Reporting to the Faculty Administrator and Department Head of Theatre, the incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of technical services relating to the design and construction of costumes for theatre productions. This position is a permanent seasonal position from mid August to mid May annually.What You'll Do:

  • Overseeing and completing all aspects of implementing the costume creation and (sometimes) design, and meeting the artistic vision of a production.
  • Working with designers
  • Drafting and fitting costumes and performing other similar costume shop techniques
  • Cutting
  • The use and operation of shop equipment, such as sewing machines, industrial irons, laundry, etc.
  • Providing instruction to faculty and students regarding sewing, block drafting, block fitting, and other costume shop techniques
  • Assist in classroom demonstrations, especially those related to costume design and creation
  • Supervision of the costume shop including wardrobe rentals, tours, and group visits
  • Collaborating with other Departments, high schools, community partners, etc.
  • Adhering to Department and production budget
  • Laundry and experience in the cleaning of various costume materials
  • Upkeep of the costume shop and storage facilities
  • Basic maintenance of sewing machines, industrial irons, sergers, etc.

Position RequirementsWhat You'll Bring to this Position:
  • Grade 12
  • Post-secondary education in related field (technical diploma, undergraduate degree).
  • Minimum of five years related experience in theatre (including training in pattern drafting and costume construction)
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:
  • Experience in drafting, design, and creation of costumes
  • Advanced skills in the use of sewing machines (domestic and industrial)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external partners
  • Strong knowledge of costume history and fashion
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and within deadlines
  • Problem solving skills
  • A Saskatchewan driver's license
  • Theatre design skills and/or knowledge in costume, set, lighting, or digital design would be considered an asset
Physical Demands
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5
Salary Range 59,378.80 - 80,166.32 annually (effective January 1, 2025)

Work HoursThe incumbent may, from time to time, be required to work irregular hours to coincide with events and theatre performances
