The opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Commercial Excellence, Array is adding a Cost Estimator to the team in Toronto to support our growth. This is a chance to apply your expertise in retail merchandising to determine the costs of materials, time and resources for the production of customized high-end in-store display units. You will work closely with Design, Engineering and Sales to develop strategic solutions enabling us to meet the continuing demands for value by the customer while protecting company margins. This role is both strategic and tactical, with the opportunity to bring your expertise to develop innovative solutions for our clients.

This is a remote position requiring the availability to be onsite at 45 Progress Road, Toronto, for onboarding and training.

You will undergo extensive training on Array\xe2\x80\x99s processes and gain exposure to our production pipelines, collaborating across multiple front-end teams. As a scaling company, we offer room to grow into a senior role on the team or move into other areas, such as Continuous Improvement or Project Management.

You will focus on:

  • Collaborate. You will collect, analyze, and follow up on information received from the internal Design, Engineering and Sales teams to work on multiple estimates a week. You will obtain all required information to quote the customer\xe2\x80\x99s needs and provide alternative solutions if needed.
  • Draft a working estimate. You will interpret renderings or sketch drawings to calculate complete estimates with yields, call-outs and assumptions for use by Project Management. You will make adjustments and suggest alternative materials and methods as well as design improvements to optimize cost-effectiveness. You will retrieve accurate pricing from external vendors to feed the estimate and ensure accuracy.
  • Determine an accurate and detailed estimate. You will review and understand the customer\xe2\x80\x99s contract and specifications. You will transpose the estimate into a comprehensive and understandable written summary to be used in formal quotes to the clients.
  • Analyze and apply the data. You will identify the most effective and cost-efficient method, location, and strategy needed to build the desired product, determining the internal cost and sell price. You will continuously analyze new options and approaches to deliver key insights to management on the best pricing for customers while maintaining profits for the company.
You have:
  • The experience. You have experience in Estimating, Process Engineering; or related product manufacturing cost analysis and estimation. You have expertise in verifying and revising estimates, taking into account new and changing information such as production location, materials, and delivery dates. You are a critical thinker who can confidently investigate and suggest alternative production methods and improve designs to optimize manufacturing cost-effectiveness.
  • The technical skills. You have strong mathematical and engineering skills, including the ability to interpret design documentation. You have advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, a project management system, and estimation software. You are comfortable learning and using new technologies and methodologies. You are highly analytical and meticulous with strong attention to detail.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional written and verbal communication skills. You can build trusting working relationships and are comfortable reaching out to internal and external contacts to request information.
  • The drive and motivation. You are committed to delivering quality results and overcoming obstacles in a time-sensitive environment. You thrive under pressure and understand the importance of meeting deadlines to enable the work of those around you. You can make decisions autonomously while prioritizing collaboration.
