Job Summary:
The Cost Controller is a critical financial role responsible for delivering accurate, real-time visibility into project performance and ensuring disciplined cost management across Tron Construction & Mining's portfolio. This position partners closely with Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to drive transparency, protect margins, and enable data-driven decisions that advance organizational performance.
This role requires a high-accountability professional with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive, process-improvement mindset. The ideal candidate brings proven experience within construction cost control and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Project Financial Oversight
Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed budgets, forecasts, and financial performance dashboards for Tron Construction & Mining projects.
Deliver accurate weekly and monthly cost reporting to support project leadership and inform decision-making.
Perform cost trending, productivity tracking, and earned-value analysis to ensure project commercial performance to support WIP reporting.
Lead variance analysis and financial reviews, including explanations of cost drivers, risks, and recoverability strategies.
Track actuals vs. commitments across labor, equipment, subcontractors, materials, indirects, and change orders.
Cost Control & Governance
Coordinate with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Site Administration to ensure disciplined cost tracking.
Support procurement processes including tracking invoice approvals, coding accuracy, and contract alignment.
Implement cost-saving initiatives through data insights and financial risk/reward recommendations.
Manage invoicing workflows including preparation of accurate monthly client billings based on Daily LEM summaries.
Support month-end and year-end financial close activities including accruals, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting.
Ensure financial records align with project controls, contract requirements, and corporate reporting standards.
Contribute to automation initiatives leveraging InEight / integrated financial systems.
Process & System Optimization
Participate in the development and enhancement of cost control processes, policies, and reporting standards.
Support digital transformation initiatives that improve Timesheet-to-Invoice cycle efficiency and operational visibility.
Maintain rigorous document controls for financial tracking, audit trails, and historical analysis.
Qualifications:
Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline (CPA a strong asset).
Minimum 3+ years cost control experience in industrial or heavy civil construction.
Demonstrated knowledge of construction financial structures, contracts, progress billing, and WIP reporting.
Proficiency in Excel and financial / project control tools (experience with InEight, NetSuite, Sage, or similar considered an asset).
Strong analytical and investigative approach to problem solving with a focus on accuracy.
High degree of ownership, accountability, and professional communication skills.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally while influencing cost discipline and performance outcomes.
